Before heading into the Humboldt Redwood State Park, pop by the Visitor Center for a quick natural history lesson – a little context will make the journey through the park all the more awe inspiring. The Visitor Center, operated by the Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association, offers a brief overview of the surrounding redwood forest, which is millenia in the making. You’ll learn about the flora and fauna, the region’s logging roots and subsequent conservation efforts. There are educational exhibits and materials, as well as a library and a gift shop. All proceeds benefit the park. The Visitor Center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
