Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. We celebrate our Obon Festival in Humboldt style with a Buddhist blessing, Obon dancing, Humboldt Taiko performances, our ancestors’ tree, kids games, Asian food vendors, artists, and so much more.

HAPI (Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity) hosts the 3rd Annual Obon Festival on Sunday, August 11 from 4-8pm in Arcata’s Creamery District (9th & L St). This traditional Japanese festival honors the spirits of those who have passed.  There will be food, art, taiko drums & dancing, plus a visit from Rev. Rinban Sakamoto from the San Jose Buddhist Church. Pay tribute to a loved one at the community altar. More information is available at hapihumboldt.org.
